The Muskie senior boys’ volleyball team were strong in round-robin play over the weekend in Dryden, but then faltered in the playoffs of a 12-team tourney there.
To start, the black-and-gold played their best volleyball of the season in the preliminary round—finishing second in their pool.
Fort High played three matches Friday, sweeping Dennis Franklin Cromarty of Thunder Bay by scores of 25-15, 25-22 before earning a split against the Westgate Tigers—also of Thunder Bay—(25-22, 21-25) and then host Dryden (16-25, 25-15).
The Muskies completed round-robin play Saturday morning by sweeping Sioux Lookout (25-17, 25-23) before losing to St. Thomas Aquinas of Kenora (19-25, 15-25).
The strong showing in the round-robin then earned the Muskies a date with Whitefish Bay in the quarter-finals.
But the black-and-gold could not carry their strong play over to the playoff round and were swept 25-19 and 25-15 to end their tournament hopes.
Next up for the senior spikers is a NorWOSSA match tomorrow (Oct. 24) against the visiting Kenora Broncos starting at 5 p.m.
