Arctic Cat hung around as long as it could with a short bench but wound up falling 66-65 to the senior Muskies in Fort Frances Men’s Basketball League action Tuesday night at Fort High.
Although Arctic Cat sported just a four-man team, neither squad could finish at the start as the score was just 10-9 in favour of the Muskies at the 11-minute mark.
The black-and-gold then led 32-30 at halftime,
Second-half action saw the game turn into a three-point competition and when the final buzzer sounded, a total of 23 “treys” had been drained.
Joey Theriault led Arctic Cat with 33 points, including six three-pointers.
Aaron Bujold topped the Muskies with 27 points (seven “threes”) while Cole Kowalski chipped in 20.
The second game of the night had Sunset Landscaping taking on the BDO Ballerz.
Things spiraled out of control for BDO in the second half, when several turnovers plus fast breaks led to Sunset escaping with a 69-58 triumph.
Jeff Campbell led the Ballerz with a team-high 19 points, including five “threes,” while Todd Richards added 14.
Josh Mastin topped all Sunset scorers with 20 points, with Justin Anderson netting 14 and Mark Heyens 13.
The final game of the night saw the RBC Lions locking horns with the Revco Renegades.
Revco outplayed the Lions down the stretch but it wasn’t enough as they dropped a 52-37 decision.
Adrenaline flowed and tensions rose in the third game of the night, which included two technical fouls.
Revco struggled to make something happen offensively in the first half while RBC racked up the points to lead 34-13 at the break.
The Renegades limited the Lions to just 18 points in the second half while grabbing 24 of their own, but fell well short.
Sam Soderman had a team-high 25 points for RBC while Philip Armstrong added 15.
Jevonte Philips (17) and John Sivonen (13) combined for 30 of Revco’s 37 points.
Seven weeks into the season, RBC leads the league with a perfect 7-0 record.
Sunset Landscaping (6-1) is right behind in second.
The senior Muskies (3-4) are in third, with BDO and Revco (2-5) tied for fourth.
Arctic Cat remains in the basement (1-6).
The league runs each Tuesday at the Fort High gym, with the first game starting at 6:40 p.m.
