Senior hoopsters lose tourney opener

The Muskie senior boys’ basketball team fell 76-48 to the Churchill Trojans yesterday in their opening game of the Tiger Tip-Off Tournament at Westgate High School in Thunder Bay.
The black-and-gold got off to a strong start paced by Travis Stromness’ 11 first-half points. However, the Muskies still found themselves trailing 33-26 at the half.
A rash of Muskie turnovers, coupled with some strong inside by the Trojans, helped Churchill extend their lead to double-digits in the third quarter.
With the game comfortably in hand, Churchill played conservatively in the fourth quarter and cruised to the 28-point victory.
Stromness led the Muskies in scoring, finishing the game with 13 points. Joey Theriault added 10, followed by Jeremy Strain with nine and Morgan Anderson seven.
The Muskies next tournament action is tonight at 6 p.m. when they face the winner of the Hillcrest-St. Ignatius game.
The squad opens NorWOSSA play this coming Tuesday (Dec. 5) when the Kenora Broncos visit Fort High.
