Senior hoopsters fall in Kenora

The Muskie senior girls’ basketball team faced the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints (Kenora) for the second time this season only it was a different outcome up there this time around.
“It didn’t go as well as I hoped,” noted head coach Paul Noonan. “It was a well-played game . . . they have got some good players.”
Noonan admitted his players weren’t executing as well as they should have. “It was a really see-saw game,” he said.
The Muskies jumped out to a quick start, leading 18-10 after the first quarter, but the Saints stormed back to tie things up at 27-27 by halftime.
Then the Saints took control of the game in the third quarter, building up a seven-point lead en route to a 50-44 victory.
“Early in the third quarter, [the game] was all over,” said Noonan. “In the fourth quarter, they were all over us.”
Sarah Noonan led the Muskies with 11 points while Danielle McGee netted 10 before fouling out. Linda Zimmerman added eight points, with Kelly Crawford and Siobhan Devlin each chipping in six.
Katie Carten led the Saints with 18 points, followed by Pam Yaguchi (14) and Allison Sweeney (12).
Noonan said it really was a good game but that his girls were making some early-season mistakes and they need to get passed them.
