Talk about an impressive showing by the Muskie senior boys’ basketball team.
The black-and-gold won all three of their games en route to claiming the title at the Kenora Invitational Tournament hosted by the Broncos on Friday and Saturday.
The Muskies opened play Friday afternoon with a 65-52 win over the Sioux Lookout Warriors.
Then after beating the Westgate Tigers (Thunder Bay) 57-46 in the semi-finals Saturday afternoon, the Muskies claimed the gold with a 57-48 victory over the Atikokan Voyageurs.
The Muskie senior girls’ volleyball team, meanwhile, was in action those same two days at the St. Patrick Volleyball Festival in Thunder Bay, where they snagged silver.
The black-and-gold went a perfect 4-0 in Pool ‘D’ play on Friday, which included straight-sets wins over the Superior Gryphons (25-16/25-8), SNVC Blue (25-9/25-12), Dryden Eagles’ juniors (25-9/25-11), and Trillium to finish in first place.
Fort High then downed the Kenora Broncos in straight sets in Saturday morning’s quarter-finals (25-16/25-11) before downing Atikokan in straight sets in the semis that afternoon (25-23/25-18).
That set up a gold-medal match against the Dryden Eagles, which the Eagles won by scores of 25-19 and 25-22.
The junior and senior hoops squads next will be in action this Thursday afternoon when they host the Voyageurs in an exhibition game.
The junior girls’ volleyball squad, meanwhile, will compete at the St. Patrick Volleyball Festival this Friday and Saturday.
All four Muskie court teams then will conclude NorWOSSA regular-season action next Tuesday (Feb. 12) in Dryden against the host Eagles.
