The Fort Frances Senior Centre is calling on local seniors to join in the Senior Games.
The window to sign up is closing fast – the deadline for registration is May 20. Forms are available at the Senior Centre.
The games will kick off on May 24 with Billiards, in Fort Frances. The final event will be pickleball, which will be held in Kenora on June 7. Other events will be five-pin bowling, euchre, contract bridge, cribbage, tennis, bocce, darts and prediction walking. Events will take place in Fort Frances, Dryden, Kenora and Sioux Lookout.
Registration is $15, which gives access to the full slate of sports. The hope is that local seniors will head to other communities if they can, and those in other communities will travel to our events, to increase the fun and competition, said organizer Irene Laing.
The events aren’t only for fun, she noted – the events are qualifiers for the provincial level, which will take place in Peterborough in August. Fort Frances often has a solid showing in the provincials, with roughly 40 participants locally most years.
