The past two years, the Sunset Country Squash Club’s Boxing Day ‘A’ champion has been Steve Boileau, with wins over Anniss Seid in 2015 and then Jason Kabel last year.
But the tables were turned this time around with Seid ousting Boileau 3-1 in the best-of-five final yesterday afternoon to recapture the title.
Both ex-juniors from the local program are the premier players when involved in any tournament here currently.
Seid was very focused, and played extremely tight and attacking squash to earn the win.
In ‘A’ Consolation action, another ex-junior in Shawn Brady defeated a very “game” Mike Canfield 3-0.
In the ‘B’ division, a hard-fought five-set match saw Jeff Wright prevail 3-2 over James Woods in a see-saw battle.
And in the ‘C’ division, past junior Rory Bagacki garnered a 3-1 victory over Chris Bobczynski.
It was another successful Boxing Day tournament that will lead up to the 31st-annual La Place Rendez-Vous tournament set for Jan. 5-7 at the Memorial Sports Centre.
