Second sign-up for girls’ hockey

Any blading belles who want to get their puck on this winter, and haven’t signed up already with the Fort Frances Girls’/Women’s Hockey Association, have one more chance to do so.
The FFGWHA will hold a final registration this Monday (Sept. 9) from 5-7 p.m. at the Memorial Sports Centre.
“Some people in the community missed the first registration night due to various reasons and were hoping to get a second opportunity to register,” FFGWHA registrar Wendy DeGagne noted yesterday.
She also stressed the need for more coaches to come on board for the upcoming season at all levels.
“The number of coaches we’ve had sign up is comparable to recent years, but we still need more,” DeGagne urged.
“We’re getting on the ice soon and we need people to coach before we can do that.”
To help ease the fears of anyone wanting to jump into the coaching ranks for the first time, DeGagne said a development clinic will be held later this month at the Memorial Sports Centre.
“This will help them feel more comfortable and help them get the qualifications they need to coach this year,” she explained.
A meeting for all interested coaches, assistant coaches, managers, and trainers is slated for next Wednesday (Sept. 11) at 7 p.m. in the ’52 Canadians Arena boardroom.
“You don’t have to commit to coaching or any of these positions,” said DeGagne.
“You can just come out to the meeting if you’re looking for more information about it.”
Anyone wanting more information can call DeGagne at 274-1121 or Ron MacKinnon at 274-2619.
