A trend is starting to establish itself during the Rendezvous Yacht Club’s racing season, and it’s one that works just fine for Ron Bowman and Quinn McCarthy.
Bowman sailed off with his third-straight win in the club’s Wednesday night spring racing series June 25 as he guided “In Tune” over the line first in a time of 25:26.
McCarthy and his vessel “Sedna” came second in 26:33 while Colin Hewitt (aboard “Ariba”) was third with a corrected time of 26:58. The three were the only ones to compete that evening.
The race originally was scheduled for only three legs due to inclement weather, but the precipitation eased off enough come race time to allow the event to run its usual five legs.
McCarthy then re-affirmed his weekend dominance with a victory in the Canada Day race on June 28—posting a time of 3:04:58 to take his second-consecutive race in the Saturday series.
Two weeks ago, McCarthy captured top spot in the Sandpoint Island race, outmaneuvering Bowman in the final stretches to earn the win.
Bowman came in second again Saturday with a clocking of 3:08:22 while Eric Rude piloted “Kemosabe” to a third-place result (3:24:17). Hewitt finished fourth in 3:41:56.
Racing action in the spring series continues today starting at 6:30 p.m.
The next Saturday event will be the Mermaid Rock race slated July 12 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Thunderbird Lodge.
