The Fort Frances Jr. Sabres had plenty to be thankful for this weekend, earning a split against a very tough Thunder Bay Bearcats squad in a two-game home series.
The Sabres took Friday night’s game by a score of 5-3 thanks to goals from across the board, including from newcomers Brock Owen and Mario Boivin.
Unfortunately for the Sabres, it was Emo native Luke Judson who was the star of Saturday night’s game—netting two goals and an assist en route to a 5-2 Bearcats’ victory.
Judson said he had anticipated the Bearcats’ first trip to Fort Frances since first signing with the team.
“I had it marked on the calendar pretty early. It was a game I wanted to be up for, and I think it worked out pretty well,” he said.
He added he was glad to play in front of a large crowd of friends and family.
“It’s always good when you can get your friends to come out to see you, and your family and what-not, so it’s good I could get a game in like that. . . .
“I knew lots of people who were going, and I know they usually get a big crowd. Lots of people who would’ve come to watch me would’ve been there anyway.”
Sabres’ goalie Ryan Faragher spelled David Novak on Friday after the latter allowed two goals on the first five shots. While Faragher earned the relief win, he allowed five goals on 30 shots the following night.
The Sabres, meanwhile, host a rare single game tonight versus the Dryden Ice Dogs, against whom they hold an 0-3 record to date.
Faragher is slated to make his second-straight start for the first time this season.
