The Fort Frances Jr. Sabres have signed returning defenceman Mario Boivin.
The 5’10”, 185-pound rearguard hails from Sioux Lookout, and expectations from the coaching staff are high coming into his sophomore season.
“Mario is a ‘D-man’ we received in October last season in a trade with the Fort William North Stars,” Sabres’ head coach Wayne Strachan noted. “Mario will be one of our top four defenceman and we are hoping he builds on his rookie season.”
Boivin had four goals and 11 assists in 32 games last season while also racking up 108 minutes in penalties.
“He logged a lot of ice at the end of the season,” Strachan said. “He plays in all situations of the game, is very physical, and plays against the other teams’ top lines.
“We are looking for Mario to come back and be a leader while hopefully adding to his point total from last season,” Strachan added.
