The Fort Frances Jr. Sabres will play their first-ever pre-season game tonight when they take on the Dryden Ice Dogs at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena.
The team will travel to Dryden for a rematch tomorrow at 7:30, then return to wrap up the pre-season weekend against the Fort William North Stars on Sunday at 2:15 p.m.
Tickets cost $5 each for both home games, and will be available at the door starting at 6 p.m. tonight and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
As reported in Wednesday’s Times, a tree will be dedicated to the memory of local resident Bryce Devoe, who was killed by a lightning strike back in late May, at 4:30 p.m. today outside the Memorial Sports Centre.
A moment of silence also will be observed on the ice before the game.
The pre-season serves as the last chance to work out the structure of the team, such as decisions on lines and positions, before the Sabres open the regular season next Friday (Sept. 14) at 7:30 p.m. against the visiting Thunder Bay Bulldogs.
