Sabres make pre-camp signing

With the Fort Frances Jr. Sabres final camp fast approaching this weekend, the team has signed a 18-year-old free agent defenceman Kyle Traynor from Brampton.

“Everything I hear about him is he’s a solid d-man,” said Sabres head coach Wayne Strachan. “He can play in any situation of the game. He’s also a pretty fair size in stature (six-foot-two and 215 pounds) and plays physical.”

Traynor comes to Fort Frances having played most recently for the Bramalea Blues of the OPJHL. In 31 games, the Brampton native netted two goals and eight assists while racking up 33 penalty minutes, seeing some time on the power play.

The Sabres will begin the preseason with a home game against Dryden in two weeks on Friday, Sept. 7, and will begin to finalize their roster at their second camp this weekend.

The team will hold on-ice games each day during the tryout, tentatively scheduled at 7 p.m. Friday, 5:15 p.m. Saturday and 11:45 p.m. Sunday. Several local players will be called back for their shot at the final lineup, as well as a number of invitees from outside the region.
