The Fort William North Stars made a statement over the weekend—and the Fort Frances Jr. Sabres bore the brunt of it in back-to-back road defeats of 7-1 and 3-0 over the weekend.
Devlin’s Jordan Davis led the North Stars’ attack in Friday night’s win, recording four assists, while newcomer Brennan Menard had two goals.
Menard had four points in the two-game series, and now has 11 in just five games since his acquisition.
Gabe Capozzi scored the Sabres’ lone goal of the weekend late in the second period on a power play.
The teams combined for 100 penalty minutes in Friday’s game, with Kenny Carpenter, Dan Usiski, and Logan McDonell all getting involved in fisticuffs.
The Stars outshot the Sabres 34-17.
Saturday night’s game was much closer, with few penalties committed by both teams, but the result once again went in the home side’s favour.
The North Stars improved their SIJHL-best record to 14-1-2 while limiting the Sabres (11-8-1) to just 13 shots on goal.
The Sabres next host the Dryden Ice Dogs this Thursday (Nov. 27) at the Ice for Kids Arena, then wrap up their brief two-game homestand against the Sioux Lookout Flyers on Saturday (Nov. 29).
Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to bring along toys to both games for the Salvation Army and United Native Friendship Centre Christmas hampers. Those who donate will be issued draw tickets for prizes donated by merchants from Rainy River District.
A different-coloured ticket will be issued each night to those who donate, and all tickets will go back into the draw for Saturday night’s grand prize of a 26-inch HD flat screen television courtesy of Howarth’s Home Centre.
