The Sabres earned their 30th victory in a 6-3 win over the Schreiber Diesels here Friday night to wrap up their regular-season schedule.
Brendan Baumgartner scored twice while Kalib Thunderchief, Mitch Cain, Kyle Turgeon, and Ryan Witherspoon added singles.
Dmitri Panagiotou, Darren Turner, and Clayton Lewis replied for the Diesels.
The Sabres (30-17-3) improved their record to an impressive 9-1 in head-to-head meetings against the Diesels (26-21-3) this season—avenging a quarter-final playoff loss to Schreiber last year.
The Sabres now turn their attention to a first-round showdown with the last-place Sioux Lookout Flyers, opening the best-of-five series this Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena.
Schreiber, meanwhile, will host the fifth-place Dryden Ice Dogs in the other quarter-final series.
The SIJHL’s top two teams—the Fort William North Stars and Thunder Bay Bearcats—have first-round byes.
