Dan Usiski scored three goals for his first hat trick of the season to lead the Fort Frances Jr. Sabres to a 7-1 win over the host Sioux Lookout Flyers yesterday.
The Sabres (23-13-2) got two goals from Mitch Cain while Kyle Turgeon and Graham Dyck added singles, avenging a 7-4 loss to the Flyers (2-33-2) here last Tuesday night.
Galen Matyjaka netted the lone Flyers’ goal.
“Much better effort,” Sabres’ head coach Wayne Strachan enthused. “One of the best starts and total efforts of the second half. We came out flying.
“We talked about our last game briefly and remembered Thursday’s paper headline about losing, [and] I think the boys didn’t want it to happen again,” he added.
The Sabres connected for three power-play goals and outshot the home side 43-18 yesterday, giving them their seventh win in eight meetings between the two clubs this season.
Next up for the Sabres is a clash with the Ice Dogs in Dryden on Wednesday night before they return home to host the Thunder Bay Bearcats on Saturday.
