Runners return on high note

There’s a long list of superlatives Jackie Lampi-Hughes can use to describe Saturday’s Fargo Marathon, but the two words that matter most are “personal best.”
More than 60 runners from Energy Fitness here took the trip to Fargo for the annual event.
“There were quite a few personal bests,” said Lampi-Hughes, who owns Energy Fitness.
“The day was very, very humid, which makes it a little harder for running,” she noted.
“[Still], we had a lot of first-timers finishing, whether it was in the 10K or the [half-marathon].”
Ashleigh Dutton was one of three locals to compete in the full marathon, finishing with a time of 4:15:02 to place 1,013th out of 2,211 overall.
Becky Chabot, from Fort Frances, and Emo’s Linda Angus finished the marathon together at 6:44:57, placing 2,199th and 2,200th, respectively.
Meanwhile, 33 district runners ran in the half-marathon, with Nicole Rogozinski turning in the top finish at 1:41:07, which put her 326th out of 6,158 half-marathoners but 26th out of 713 in her age group.
Sharla MacKinnon finished in 1:54:58 to place 1,170th in the half-marathon.
Rich Peri was the top male half-marathoner from here, finishing in 1:58 for 1,472nd place.
Another 42 locals competed in the 10K run. Nancy Evans finished fifth in her 60-64 age group, covering the distance in 1:07:57.
Matthew Berube placed 59th in the 14-and-under group (1:06:11). Danielle Spuzak also turned in a quick performance, coming in at 51:21 to place 11th in her age group and 164th overall.
Local runners next can look forward to a 5K run here on Saturday, June 11.
Registration is $20, with all proceeds going towards the Riverside Foundation for Health Care.
There also will be a one-km run for kids the same day, with a $5 registration fee.
