RRDFL title up for grabs tonight

Staff

It’s all come down to this.
The 2011 Rainy River District Fastball League title will be decided tonight, weather permitting, as the number one ranked Beef’s Warriors will take on the third seeded Sight & Sound Wolves in a 7:30 p.m. tilt at VanJura.
The Wolves, who have won the last two RRDFL championships, kept their season alive in the double-elimination playoff format last Thursday evening as they overturned a five run deficit and held off a late charge from the Warriors to take a 9-8 victory.
John Desaulniers led the way for the Wolves with two home runs, and also contributed on the mound by sitting down many of the Warriors top hitters on his way to the complete game triumph.
Beeker Watson added a two-run insurance bomb for the Wolves in the top of the seventh inning, while regular season home run leader Rob McGinnis had a pair of homers in the loss, which was given to Warriors starter Sheldon Kelly.
The setback for the Warriors, who are competing in their inaugural RRDFL campaign, was their first of the 2011 playoffs, and their first loss since the second game of the regular season back on May 19 against the Big Grassy Braves.
Beef’s Warriors have had the upper hand in their season series thus far with the Wolves, as they won their two head-to-head meetings in the regular season along with a playoff contest back on Aug. 16.
