The Boston Pizza Royals will be hosting the first-annual Boston Pizza “Fire on Ice” PeeWee ‘AA’ tournament this coming weekend.
The Royals have had a successful season so far, recording two second-place finishes, one third-place finish, and a ‘B’-side championship this past weekend in Bemidji, Mn.
Head coach Mike Allison, along with assistant coaches Jody Shypit, Martin Williams, and Duane Cridland, have been working hard to prepare the team for this tournament and performing for the “hometown” fans.
The Royals host seven out-of-town teams coming from International Falls, Mn. Selkirk, Man., Springfield, Man., Kenora, Dryden, and Thunder Bay.
The squad will open action Friday at 11:15 a.m. as they face their rivals, the Dryden Paper Kings, in the first game of round-robin play.
Their second game gets underway at 3:45 p.m. against the Selkirk Fishermen.
The Royals will face the KC Sabres (Thunder Bay) in their third game on Saturday at 9:45 a.m.
Saturday afternoon then will consist of semi-final games, with the consolation and championship games set for Sunday.
Admission is free.
In recognition of new sponsorship this year, the Royals will pay tribute to the Knight of Columbus for 73 years of past sponsorship and welcome the new sponsor, Boston Pizza, during a special ceremony immediately following their opening game.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 12:15 p.m. on Friday.
