Royals start season with silver showing

The local Boston Pizza Royals PeeWee ‘AA’ team headed to Thunder Bay over the weekend to participate in the Pizza Hut Wing Street Fall Classic hockey tournament.
During round-robin play, the team held the North End Flames to a 1-1 tie on Friday, then went on to defeat the Dryden Paper Kings 3-2 later that day.
Saturday ended with a 3-3 tie against the Elks 82s and a 4-1 win over the Neebing Hawks.
With a record of two wins and two ties, the Royals ended the round-robin portion with six points and a fourth-place finish.
Heading to the semi-finals Sunday morning against the first-place Elks 82s, they showed that hard work and determination pays off when the game ended with a 5-1 win to move on to the championship game against the Dryden Paper Kings.
The Royals fought hard and strong through a scoreless first period. Dryden then netted a goal with only 0.2 seconds left in the second period.
Heading into the third period trailing 1-0, the Royals continued to skate hard and strong but was unable to get on the scoreboard.The Paper Kings won 1-0 to leave the Royals the second-place finish.
The squad heads to East Grand Forks for their next tournament Nov. 27-29.
