Roy rink to attend nationals

Raymond Roy and his rink have known for quite a while that they’re going to be attending the Dominion Men’s Curling Club national championships, and will finally get a chance to play in it later this month.
Roy and his rink of Dave Broman, Butch Wensley and Patrick Briere will attend the Canadian championships in Charlottetown, PEI from Nov. 23-28.
The rink had won the Northern Ontario berth with a 5-2 victory over Coniston’s Denis Prevost way back on Apr. 11 in the provincial championship in Port Arthur.
Roy’s rink, along with three others, were tied with a 3-2 record after the round-robin, so the playoff round was wide open heading in, but it was Roy’s team that got hot and emerged with the title.
The Fort Frances Curling Club will be holding a send-off party for the team on Nov. 12 at the club.
Club manager Rick Grenda said that those attending the party, which will be a casual, come-and-go event, can start coming by the club between 6:30 and 7 p.m., and the party will likely go on until the club closes.
