The Raymond Roy rink will continue their quest to qualify for the 2012 Dominion Curling Club Championship when they vie for the provincial crown this weekend at the Horne Granite Curling Club in New Liskeard.
Roy, who is joined by third Mark Broman, second Butch Wensley, and lead Patrick Briere, opened play this afternoon against Russ Mellerup (Thunder Bay), then will meet Alain Leduc (Espanola) tonight.
The Fort Frances crew then will play three games tomorrow to conclude their five-game round-robin slate.
They’ll face Tom Leonard (Sudbury) in the morning, Matti Lehtisaari (Kapuskasing) in the afternoon, and then Dave Barker (Geraldton) that night.
The playdowns will wrap up Sunday with the final, which is slated to get underway at 10 a.m. (EST), although it might get pushed back to 1 p.m. if tie-breakers are needed.
The winners of the men’s and women’s provincial playdowns, which both are taking place in New Liskeard, go on to represent Northern Ontario at the 2012 Dominion Curling Club Championships, slated for Nov. 19-24 in Scarborough, Ont.
Roy previously went to the nationals two years ago in Charlottetown, where his rink finished with a 4-2 record in the round-robin before losing to Alberta in a tie-breaker.
