Raymond Roy will hope to become more masterful by later today.
The Fort Frances skip and his team of third Don DeBenedet, second Brent Taylor (Atikokan), and lead Ian McLennan fell 5-4 to Gord Williams (Thunder Bay) in their first game of the 2016 Masters men’s provincial curling championship in Geraldton.
Williams scored a decisive deuce with last rock in the eighth after Roy had stolen one in the seventh to lead 4-3.
The locals had a bye in the second draw of the three-team event, then will face Dave Barker (Geraldton) later today.
The double round-robin continues tomorrow.
Sunday’s final will feature the top two finishers after the preliminary round.
The winner advances to the Canadian Masters championship April 4-10 in Nova Scotia.
