Rough start for Bantams

It certainly wasn’t the way four Fort Frances players wanted to kick off the provincial ‘AAA’ Bantam hockey championships in Thunder Bay.
The regional all-star squad were dumped 7-1 by the host Thunder Bay Kings yesterday morning, then were blanked 7-0 by the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs last night.
Local player Rory Keith netted the lone goal of the day for the squad, which also is made up of players from Kenora, Sioux Lookout, and Dryden.
Meanwhile, local goalie Brandon Bodnar got the start in the loss to the Kings before coming on in relief of Rylie Wills (Sioux Lookout) in the nightcap.
Defenceman Carter Brown and forward Brody McPherson are the other two Fort Frances players on the team.
The regional squad is back on the ice this afternoon against the Mississauga Rebels, then will play another doubleheader tomorrow versus the Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs and the Ottawa Valley Titans.
They will wrap up round-robin play Thursday afternoon against Sault Ste. Marie.
The top four teams advance to the semi-finals Friday, with the gold-medal game set for Saturday afternoon.
