Roseau pucksters thump Emo Leafs

A smooth-skating team with pinpoint passing, the Roseau American Legion Atom ‘AA’ squad rolled over the host Emo Leafs 13-2 in recent minor hockey action.
Roseau jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period, then outscored the Leafs 5-1 in the second to grab a commanding lead heading into the final period.
Aaron Ness sparked the visitors with five goals, with Adam Lykken adding a hat trick. Jason Fabien netted a pair of goals while Tyler Landman, Tyler Johnson, and Danielle Janzen had singles.
Brian Wayash and Jordon Davis replied for the Leafs.
In other action, the visiting MEC Bulldogs led 4-2 after the first period, then held on to a 7-6 win over the host Emo Selects in Atom action.
Garret Howells and Joshua Scott each had a pair of goals to pace the Bulldogs, with Julia Martin, Darren Foster, and Chad Dustak adding singles.
Ryan Witherspoon netted a hat trick for the Selects, with Matt Beacham, Derek Sigurdson, and Luke Judson getting the other goals.
Meanwhile, in Novice action, the Emo Rockets scored twice in the third period on goals by Kurtis Hill to beat visiting International Falls (Black) 3-1. Jonathan Stewart got Emo’s other goal while Jonathan McDonald replied for the Falls.
But it was a different story in their second game, which ended in a 5-0 victory for Skates and Blades (Fort Frances).
Zach McCool paced the Fort with two goals while Cody McCool, Jeff Cridland, and Blake Wepruk added singles.
Emo OPP held their own against the hometown rivals, the Wings, skating to a 3-1 win on goals by Jorden Meyers (two) and Tim Sharp.
Brett Hands scored for the Wings.
The Wings then lost their second game 7-0 to International Falls (Red), giving up two goals in the first and second periods, and then icing the victory with three more in the third.
In another home town battle, the Emo Thunderbolts squeaked past the Emo Predators 4-3 in PeeWee play, scoring three times in the third after falling behind 3-1 after two periods.
Tyler Kinnear (two), Tyler Hunter, and Kevin Friesen scored for the Thunderbolts while Eric Soucy, Brett Meyers, and Tyson Romyn replied for the Predators.
In Bantam play, the Emo Cowboys split their games, opening with a 2-0 shutout over Canadian Tire (Fort Frances) on goals by Jeff Hyatt and Jason Webb.
But the tables were reversed against the Oddfellows (Fort Frances), who blanked the Cowboys 2-0 as Tyson Dennis and Steve Carlson tallied.
And Tagg’s (Fort Frances) also skated home with a 2-0 victory over the Emo Midget Blues, getting goals from Jordan Wilson and Andrew George in a four-minute span of the second period.
