Local marathoner Lorne Ricard clocked a time of 3:16 under muggy conditions Sunday to place 45th overall in the 26.2-mile Manitoba Marathon.
Just over 600 runners took part in the full marathon, with Brandon’s Dane Samuel winning the annual Father’s Day race in a time of 2:33.25.
Although Ricard’s time and placing was off last year’s mark (28th overall with a sizzling time of 3:00.07), he still was satisfied with his performance.
“I’m really happy. I set a time of 3:15 for myself and I was right on pace,” said Ricard, 45, competing in his 20th marathon since first running in the Manitoba one eight years ago.
Ricard’s next stop on the marathon tour will be in Minneapolis in October, then he plans to run in the prestigious New York City Marathon in November.
It will be his first race in the Big Apple although he’s previously run in the Boston Marathon.
Three other local runners also went the distance last weekend. Don DeBenedet ran the half-marathon in Winnipeg in a time of 1:34.
Meanwhile, Doris Barton and Kerri Tolen ran in Gramma’s Marathon in Duluth over the weekend. Barton clocked a time of 3:56 while Tolen came in at 4:07.
Barton shaved more than 10 minutes off her time from last year (4:09) while Tolen bettered her mark of 4:15 a year ago there.
