Red Storm second, Thomson ninth at Rutgers

Chrissy Thomson’s inconsistency didn’t interfere with her team’s surge to the runner -up spot.
The Fort Frances native fired a two-day total of 12-over par 156 to finish tied for ninth with teammate Maggie Steciuk at the Rutgers Invitational golf championship in Piscataway, N.J over the weekend, while her St. John’s Red Storm women’s golf team placed second overall.
Thomson was in contention for top individual honours after carding an opening-round two-over 74 on Friday to put herself in third place, five shots out of the lead. But a closing score of 10-over 82 dropped Thomson back in the field, although it was still good enough for her second top-10 finish of the season.
The Red Storm, which ended up not participating in the East Coast Athletic Conference championships in Albany, N.Y. the previous week, head to Cape Cod, Mass. this weekend for the fall season’s final event, the Harvard Invitational.
