The waiting game was getting old so a few district fastball teams decided to play a real game instead.
Despite a steady rain, which already washed out most of the schedule this week, some games did take place yesterday evening in both local leagues.
Matt Anderson homered, and picked up the win on the mound, as the Dawson Tigers (1-0) romped to a 31-6 win over the visiting Rainy River Royals (0-2).
Ryan Anderson also homered for the Tigers.
Benji Dobransky took the loss.
Manitou hurler Jeff Morrison, meanwhile, looked solid in his debut with his new team as the host Thunderbirds (1-0) dumped the Big Island Huskies (0-1) by a 9-1 count.
Morrison led the league in wins last season while pitching for the Big Grassy Braves.
Matt Comegan took the loss.
In a game played Wednesday, the Sabaskong Cubs (1-0) got early bragging rights with an 11-5 win over the Sabaskong Lakers (0-1).
The Cubs were led by the strong pitching of Kevin Copenace.
Dayton Kelly was tagged with the loss.
Last night’s game between the Jesse Tom Pirates and Sight & Sound Wolves at VanJura Park here last night was postponed due to the poor weather.
So was the all-Couchiching match-up between Windy’s Warriors and the Couchiching Raiders.
No word was received on yesterday’s scheduled game between the Stratton Bobcats and host Barwick Blue Knights.
Men’s action is slated to resume Tuesday, with the Raiders hosting the Wolves at Couchiching while the Pirates will face the Lakers here.
In the Rainy River District Women’s Fastball League, the two Sabaskong teams also scoffed at yesterday’s rain and made up their postponed game from Monday.
Savannah Prince belted a home run, while Jarrah Tom was masterful on the mound, as Sabaskong Tebinaak (1-1) earned an 8-6 win over the Sabaskong Cougars (0-1).
Candi Kelly was tagged with the loss.
The only game scheduled for Victoria Day is a makeup contest from this past Monday between the host Big Grassy Lynx and Couchiching Lady Raiders.
