Raiders drop Muskies to 0-4

The gap between the champions and the also-rans has greatly decreased. Alas, there is still a gap.
The Muskie ‘A’ football team, which was manhandled to the tune of 77-8 in two games against the defending Winnipeg High School Football League champion Oak Park Raiders last season, gave the Raiders a serious run for their money there Friday.
But a late touchdown was the insurance the Raiders (1-2-1) needed to earn their first win of the year as they downed the Muskies (0-4) by a 26-17 margin.
Oak Park, which had been held to just 36 points in its first three games, finally broke through on offence and in doing so left the Muskies to join the Sisler Spartans (0-3-1) as the last remaining winless teams in the WHSFL.
But unlike last year, when their playoff fate came down to the final week of action, the black-and-gold can take comfort in the fact they already have a spot in the post-season wrapped up.
That’s because the Kenora Broncos moved down this season from the league’s ‘AA’ division to the lower-calibre ‘A’ group, ensuring all eight remaining teams in the ‘AA’ division, including the Muskies, would make the quarter-finals.
With their regular-season road schedule now behind them, the Muskies can focus on improving their standing—and snapping their 15-game losing streak—with three-straight home games leading up to the playoffs.
That run begins this Friday at 4:30 p.m. when the Muskies host the third-place Churchill Bulldogs (3-1) in the annual Homecoming game.
