The Borderland Racing Association held its year-end meeting Saturday at the Emo Inn and elected a new executive for 2002—though many of the names remain the same.
New to the executive will be Dane Lowey, Jake Hassbargen, and Denny Trimble, who will all join as directors.
Hassbargen and Trimble both raced this past summer at the Emo oval. Hassbargen, a native of Birchdale, Mn. (near Baudette), raced in his first season in the Streets division.
He won the overall points title as well as rookie-of-the-year honours.
Trimble is a 10-year veteran with the association, having raced drags in St. Thomas, Ont. before moving to Devlin. He finished fifth overall in the Streets division.
Lowey helped design the association’s racing Web site (www.borderlandracing.com) with statistician Al Smith.
Association president Dave Allen and vice-president Mark Davis both were re-elected to their positions by the 32 members on hand for Saturday’s meeting.
Other returning directors include Ken Perry, Phil Gavel, Dennis Pelepetz, Ron Westover, and Chris Shine.
“I’m happy with the group that was chosen. I’ve had a chance to work with most of them. It should be a good year,” Allen said.
Other business discussed was to begin putting up new lights around the Emo Speedway. Costs have been finalized and it was just a matter of the members giving the green light.
“It should be ready by the new season [in May],” noted Allen.
Allen added more details on the upcoming season will be discussed at the association’s next general meeting in late January or early February. Among the topics will be their annual fundraising campaign.
“The aim for this meeting was to set the executive,” he said. “It was something we had to do by the end of the calendar year.”
