Early offence let Shade cruise to victory in the ‘A’ final of a mixed slo-pitch tournament in Devlin over the weekend.
The Fort Frances squad scored four runs in the first inning and three more in the second en route to a 9-5 win over the host Brew Jays.
Mike Bazylewski led the way for the Shade with two home runs, including a three-run blast in the second and a solo shot in the fourth.
The game was the second ‘A’ final between these two teams. Shade outslugged the Brew Jays 29-22 in the final of Devlin’s charity tournament last month.
But whether there’s a bona fide rivalry between the two teams is an overstatement.
“I don’t know about rivalry,” said Bazylewski, whose team went 4-0 on the weekend and are 5-2 in league play here in town. “Every team has good days and bad days. We just play well when we have to.
“It’s hard to say who the better team is,” he added.
This tournament saw 10 teams compete. The Village People beat the Slammers in the ‘B’ final while the Clippers downed Variety Zone in the ‘C’ event.
