Queens win first two games

Former Muskie forward Jillian Langtry and the rest of the Thunder Bay Queens Midget women’s hockey team have gotten off to a perfect start at the Esso Cup national championship in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
The squad was 2-0 heading into this morning’s game against the Rebelles de Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean from Quebec.
The Queens opened the tournament Sunday with a 12-1 shellacking of the host Capital District Cyclones, with Langtry scoring a goal and adding two assists.
The Queens, who won the Esso Cup in their previous appearance in 2010, continued their hot start yesterday with a 6-1 victory over the Edmonton Thunder.
Langtry also found the back of the net during that game, with her goal just past the halfway point of the second period proving to be the go-ahead marker.
After today’s game, the Queens return to action tomorrow at 10 a.m. (CDT) against Metro Boston Pizza from Halifax.
Then they’ll conclude the round-robin portion on Thursday at 2 p.m. (CDT) versus the Pembina Valley Hawks from Morden, Man.
The top four teams then will advance to the semi-finals Friday, with the championship game slated for Saturday at 4 p.m. (CDT).
