Former Muskie forward Jillian Langtry scored the eventual game-winning goal yesterday as the Thunder Bay Queens Midget women’s hockey team prevailed 5-4 over the Pembina Winter Hawks (Morden, Man.) at the Esso Cup national championship in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
The Queens finished round-robin play at 5-0, assuring them first place heading into today’s semi-final against the fourth-seeded Metro Boston Pizza from Halifax at 4 p.m. (CDT).
The Queens were up 4-3 when Langtry gave her team a two-goal cushion just past the halfway mark of the third.
Lauryn Keen cut the deficit back to one a couple of minutes later, but Queens’ goalie Megan Leikkari stood tall to preserve the victory.
Langtry also assisted on Farrah Nicholl’s second-period goal.
The Winter Hawks will square off against the Edmonton Thunder in the other semi-final.
The final, which goes tomorrow at 4 p.m. (CDT), will be aired on TSN.
