Queens in semi-finals

The Thunder Bay Queens Midget women’s hockey team, which includes former Muskie forward Jillian Langtry, have dominated so far at the Esso Cup national championship in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
The squad was a perfect 4-0 heading into its final round-robin game this afternoon against the Pembina Valley Hawks from Morden, Man.
Regardless of the outcome of today’s game, which gets underway at 2 p.m. (CDT), the Queens already are assured of a berth in the semi-finals, although a win over the Hawks would assure them of the top seed in the playoffs.
Although Langtry was held off the scoresheet yesterday morning, her teammates had little trouble rolling to a 5-2 triumph over Metro Boston Pizza from Halifax, with the Queens outshooting their opponents by a 40-18 margin.
On Tuesday morning, the Queens had little trouble against the Rebelles de Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean from Quebec, cruising to an 8-1 victory.
Langtry scored twice in that one and also collected an assist.
The top four teams from the six-team round-robin will advance to tomorrow’s semi-finals, which will take place at noon and 4 p.m. (CDT).
The championship game is slated for Saturday at 4 p.m. (CDT).
