Green’s Countrywide Predators made a statement over the weekend.
The local PeeWee hockey squad posted five-straight wins en route to a tournament win in Emo, capping their impressive run with an 8-0 shutout over the Fort Frances Lions in Sunday’s final.
Jarred Taylor tallied a hat trick while Thomas Onichuk netted a pair of goals. Ben Whitburn, Joseph Onichuk, and Dane Blais added singles.
Alex Adrian earned the shutout between the pipes.
Green’s had opened the tournament Friday with a 6-0 shutout over the host Emo Cobras, getting goals from six different scorers in a balanced offensive attack.
Matthew Berube, Blais, Joshua Cousineau, Kevin Metke, Jacob Bolzan, and Whitburn all notched singles while Shanleigh Fryer earned the win in goal.
Their second game later that night featured a match-up with the Kenora Lions—and the Predators quickly made mince meat of the out-of-town team in a 9-0 blowout.
Taylor scored three goals in that one while Berube netted a pair. Schamin Whalen, Blais, Jacob McKee, and Joshua Gouin added singles, with Blais also registering three assists.
Adrian was in goal for the shutout.
The Predators then wrapped up the round-robin by doubling Atikokan 4-2. All six goals came in the third period, with Blais and Taylor scoring two goals apiece for Fort Frances.
Green’s next played in the ‘A’-side semi-final, coming out on top in a close game by a 5-3 score over Taggs (Kenora).
Taylor recorded two more goals while Thomas Onichuk, Whalen, and Blais netted singles to help the local squad advance to the final.
The Predators are coached by Trevor and Ryan Armstrong along with Monte Bolzan.
