The Rainy River District Women’s Fastball League regular season didn’t go out with a bang so much as a thud.
With ninth place on the line, the Sabaskong Tebinaak was awarded the win over the Big Island Wildcats by forfeit last night in the final game before the double-elimination post-season gets underway this Wednesday.
Sabaskong will visit the eighth-place Emo Renegades in one of four first-round playoff contests that night.
Big Island will head to Pinewood to face the seventh-place Dawson Tigers while fifth-place Couchiching will host the 12th-place Manitou T-Birdies.
The other first-round matchup will feature the 11th-place Fort Frances Angels—mired in a 12-game losing streak—visiting the sixth-place Red Gut Babes.
The top four squads—the Fort Frances Her-icanes, Fort Frances Mud Dogs, defending champion Northwest Bay Beavers, and Big Grassy Lynx—earned first-round byes.
But before the playoffs begin, the league will hold its annual all-star game this Monday at 7 p.m. at Oltsher Field in Barwick.
Darcy Smith (Northwest Bay) and Kayla Windigo (Red Gut) will captain the two teams.
