Players cue up for season

Local pool players are unpacking their cues and gearing up for another season with the Fort Frances mixed pool league.
“I hope this is another successful season,” said organizer Heather Gunderson. “We are hoping more people will be motivated to be involved.”
The league, which had its first meeting of the season Monday night at the Rainy Lake Hotel here, gets underway Oct. 16.
Teams interested in joining the league can do so until Oct. 10, Gunderson said.
She also noted there will be an associate list this year for anyone who wants to play part-time. That person still has to pay the $10 league fee.
“Anyone interested can register their name at the White Pine or the Rainy Lake. I will be checking regularly to update the lists,” she remarked.
Gunderson said there are only six teams so far this year, and three or four of them are returning ones. “There are usually anywhere from six-nine teams per season,” she noted.
Each team can have six to 20 members but only six can play at one time.
Gunderson said this is a team league but if anyone wanted to join, she is sure she would be able to find a place for them to play.
“There will be three tournaments this year, and the top male/female shootout will have its own day and all team members can go in it,” she said.
“That will be held the day after the final tournament of the year.”
Gunderson also said there’s a strong possibility of a banquet at the end of the season for the first time.
