Pharmasave shuts out Manitou

Staff

A resilient keeper and another positive cameo appearance by a female sharpshooter led to a big turnaround for Pharmasave.
Steve Hands went from shell-shocked to superb as he stopped everything fired his way as last-place Pharmasave (4-10) upset second-place Manitou Forest Products (5-4-2) by a 1-0 score in Borderland Soccer League men’s division action last night.
Hands and his mates were blasted 11-1 on Monday by league-leading Centra Pipelines (7-3), but were flawless defensively against a Manitou team playing for the second-straight night in a row.
Hailey Beaudry scored the lone goal of the game.
Like Claire Hyatt did two games ago for Pharmasave, Beaudry came over from La Place Rendez-Vous/Taggs in the women’s division to snipe the lone marker against Manitou keeper Jacob Albright.
On Tuesday, Manitou battled to a 1-1 draw with third-place CJ Contracting (6-5-2).
Colton Spicer had Manitou’s goal while Albright was between the pipes.
Connor Bujold replied for CJ, with Alex Gustafson handling keeper duties.
Tonight’s game at 7 p.m. will feature CJ against Centra.
