Pharmasave advances to men’s final

In men’s semi-final action last night, Pharmasave beat Gillons’ 5-2 last night to advance to the men’s final of the Borderland Soccer League on Sunday afternoon at the St. Francis Sportsfield.
The first half featured fairly close competition between the two teams, with the score being tied 1-1 at the break.
Chris Wiedenhoeft score the first goal for Pharmasave while Jeremy Wilson tied it up with a penalty kick for Gillons’.
Pharmasave regrouped at half-time and put on the offensive pressure, getting a pair of goals by Paul Danku and Scott Gurski to go up 3-1.
Gillons’ answered with a goal by Joey Thesiault-Martel but that was as close as the team would get. Pharmasave iced the win with goals by Olaf Ruppenstein and Gurski.
Pharmasave, which had finished first during the regular season (11-4-1), now will face third-place Emo (7-5-2) in Sunday’s final, which gets underway at 4 p.m.
The women’s final, which goes Sunday at 2 p.m., pits Curves (7-2-2) against Gillons’ (7-3-2).
