“The Three R’s” took the Minnesota Iron Rangers to school last night.
The line of Dylan Robertson, A.J. Rupert, and Nolan Ross combined for nine points as the Fort Frances Lakers made it 10-straight league wins with a 7-1 romp down in Hoyt Lakes.
Robertson, whose four-point outing raised his league-leading points total to 60, helped Davis Ross set up Rupert for the lone goal of the first.
The Lakers then erupted for six goals in the second.
Robertson notched his 26th goal of the year at 2:01, which has him second in the SIJHL behind Nicholas Nigro of the Thunder Bay North Stars (27).
He then fed Nolan Ross for his second short-handed goal in three games at 7:20.
Then after Andrew Willner netted his 19th of the campaign at 11:22, Davis Ross got in on the act at 15:22 on the power play, sending Iron Rangers’ starter Anthony Pupplo to the bench.
Jason Wilson welcomed Kyle Carignan to the game by beating the veteran goalie at 16:31.
Nick Minerva’s marker at 17:32 made it three goals in a span of 2:10 to close out the Lakers’ onslaught.
Logan Froberg spoiled Brandon Bodnar’s chance at a third shutuout at 5:49 of the third.
Bodnar made 32 saves to improve to 12-3 on the season while solidifying his SIJHL-leading marks in GAA (1.71) and save percentage (.942).
The first-place Lakers (35-6-0-1) will play their only game of the season at the Couchiching Arena tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. against Thunder Bay.
