The Fort Frances Lakers have begun to set the stage for the 2011/12 SIJHL season, re-signing a pair of key players from last year’s lineup earlier this week.
Forwards Blake Boaz and Byron Katapaytuk, in their final year of junior eligibility, again will be taking to the Ice for Kids Arena this coming season.
“They will be two big keys to our team as we move forward,” said Lakers’ head coach and general manager Wayne Strachan.
“If you look at our stats from last season, they were our top scorers that were eligible to return this season,” he noted.
“So to have them both come back will give us a solid core to build on with our forwards.”
A Moose Factory product, Katapaytuk was second in Lakers’ scoring last year with 56 points in 54 games en route to earning the team’s MVP honours and being a nominee for the SIJHL’s player-of-the-year award.
Boaz, from MacGregor, Man., had 46 points in 51 games a season ago while earning the award as the league’s top defensive forward.
Both players will be entering their third season of play with the Lakers.
