Steve Arpin went gambling in Atlantic City and drew a pair of threes.
The Fort Frances native placed third both Saturday and Sunday at the Red Bull Global Rallycross doubleheader there.
Racing for Loenbro Motorsports, Arpin finished Saturday’s 10-lap feature in 8:24.710 to finish just under nine seconds behind Scott Speed with Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross (8:15.759).
Then on Sunday, Speed again took the checkered flag in an even faster time of 8:04.244 to beat Arpin (8:09.548) by a little more than five seconds.
Patrick Sandell (Subaru Rally Team USA) was second Saturday, 2.7 seconds back of Speed.
Sebastian Eriksson (Honda Red Bull QMSE) was the runner-up Sunday, finishing about 4.5 seconds behind Speed.
Arpin’s results pushed him past Tanner Foust (Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross) and into second place in the driver championship standings with 578 points.
He’s three ahead of Foust (575) and still within striking distance of Speed (616).
Another twin bill awaits at the next stopping point for the Global Rallycross tour Sept. 9-10 in Seattle.
The feature races will run both days on NBCSN at 3:30 p.m. (CDT).
