It took longer than usual for her but Katie Sinclair finally got to hear name called first on a goal announcement.
The former Muskie tallied her first goal of the season and added an assist in a 4-1 win for the Lakehead University Thunderwolves over the Assiniboine Community College Cougars during ACHA Division 2 women’s hockey action in Brandon on Saturday.
Sinclair set up Azia Vass at 19:05 of the first period to make it 3-0, then rounded out the scoring at 4:43 of the third.
The 21-year-old forward from Fort Frances has three points in six games in her first season with the Thunderwolves.

Also hitting the scoresheet for the first time this season was defenceman Jon Carlson from Fort Frances.
He tallied a power-play goal at 8:40 of the second period Friday night as his Fredonia Blue Devils beat the Postdam Bears 4-1 in NCAA Division III play.
It is the first point in five games this season for the 22-year-old.

Forward Jared Bethune of Fort Frances, originally from Warroad, Mn., netted two goals, including a short-handed marker, and added an assist as the Prince George Cougars drubbed the Kamloops Blazers 7-0 in WHL play Saturday.
Bethune, 19, has 20 points in 21 games this season.

Idaho Steelheads’ forward Joe Basaraba may have his shooting issues ironed out.
After getting just one goal in his first 10 games, the 24-year-old third-round draft pick of the Florida Panthers from 2010 had two in his last three ECHL outings.
Basaraba notched his first power-play goal of the campaign in a 6-3 loss to the Adirondack Thunder last Wednesday.
Then he netted his first short-handed goal this season during a 4-2 triumph over the Thunder the following night.

Also having a split week with his ECHL team was Fort Frances native Ryan Faragher.
The 26-year-old netminder for the Utah Grizzlies turned away 35 shots against the Allen Americans on Saturday but still lost 3-2 in a shootout.
It was a different story on Monday, however, as Faragher (6-2-0-1) made 24 saves as Utah beat Adirondack 5-2.

Cooper Witherspoon celebrated multiple times with the Thunder Bay Minor Midget ‘AAA’ Kings over the weekend.
The Fort resident had a goal and an assist in a 4-2 loss to HC Dallas on Friday, then scored in the Kings’ 5-2 win over the Arizona Bobcats.
Witherspoon has five points in 11 games this season.
Fellow former Muskies Nick Hahkala has seven points in 13 games for the Kings while Ethan Carlson has three goals in that same span.

Jordan Larson of Fort Frances scored to help the University of Alabama-Huntsville Chargers salvage a 3-3 tie with the Alaska-Fairbanks Nanooks in NCAA Division II play Saturday.
The former Lakers’ star has eight points in 14 games.
