The Fort Frances OPP Midget ‘A’ team fell 5-1 decision to the North End Flames in the ‘B’ final of a tournament in Dryden over the weekend.
After a scoreless first period, Dryden scored three times in the second period and then added two more in the third to ice the victory.
Pat Wensley scored the lone Fort Frances goal.
The OPP opened the tournament with a 3-2 loss to the Fort William Canadians (getting goals from John Yellowega and Wensley) and then were nipped 2-1 by Norwest (Wensley).
But they won their next game 2-1 over Vermilion Bay in another tight defensive struggle. Mervin Rose gave OPP a 1-0 first-period lead, with Roy Tighe netting the game-winner with 11:20 to go in the third.
OPP goalie Jason Flatt was outstanding in between the pipes all weekend, coach Butch Wensley noted.
