Instead of a nighttime showdown, the Muskies senior girls’ basketball team will count on some matinee magic in its initial test against the best Thunder Bay has to offer.
The start time for Game 1 of the best-of-three NWOSSAA showdown between the Muskies and Hammarskjold Vikings, originally scheduled for tomorrow at 7 p.m., has been moved to a mid-afternoon tip-off of 3 p.m.
It will be a match-up of two teams that won their respective league titles with undefeated records.
The Vikings are led by the dual scoring threat of Aliisa Heiskanen, who had a game-high 19 points against the St. Ignatius Falcons in the Thunder Bay final Monday, and Shannon McKitrick.
Centre Megan Foster also had a big effort in the gold-medal game with 10 points.
The black-and-gold will counter with shooting guard and top scorer Sarah Bagacki leading the charge.
Centre Keira Lindgren, along with forwards Maisie Fichuk and Hannah McLeod (10 points in the NorWOSSA final last Friday in Dryden), also will be counted on to provide offensive support.
Game 2 of the series goes Saturday at 10 a.m., with Game 3 (if necessary) set for 2 p.m.
The winner advances to the OFSAA ‘AA’ championship Nov. 21-23 in Windsor.
