Ont. teams in playoffs

It’s time for the playoffs at the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships in Cowichan, B.C., with the cross-over quarter-finals getting underway today involving both Team Ontario squads, which each feature district players.
Annalise (CC) Hayes (Couchiching) and Makenna Henttonen (Onegaming) are part of the girls’ squad that finished 2-1 and in second place in Division 2 of their eight-team tournament.
They faced Saskatchewan, the third-place team in Division 1, this afternoon.
Hayes had a goal and an assist in Ontario’s 4-2 loss to Team Manitoba on Tuesday.
Then yesterday, Hayes was held pointless while Henttonen did not play in a 6-5 victory over Team Atlantic.
The boys’ team also ended up in second place with a 2-1 mark in Division 1.
They take on Team North, the third-place team from Division 2, this afternoon.
Defenceman Izzy Smith (Couchiching) was kept off the scoresheet in a 4-2 loss to B.C. on Tuesday and then a 9-5 triumph over Eastern Door & North yesterday.
The semi-finals go tomorrow, with the finals set for Saturday.
