With their chief rivals unavailable for action, the One Hit Wonders walked through the open door of opportunity.
Thanks to their third-straight six-point night last Thursday, the squad grabbed sole possession of first place in the Fort Frances Women’s Volleyball League with 40 total points.
One Hit Wonders and Kiss My Pass were tied for top spot entering the night.
But due to the death of a youth on the team’s home reserve of Onigaming First Nation, Kiss My Pass stayed home out of respect.
Their games will be rescheduled at a later date.
Despite its absence, Kiss My Pass remained in second place with 34 points as the rest of the league is well back of the front-runners.
A six-point night vaulted Let’s Talk About Sets into third place (23), one ahead of defending champion Scared Hitless.
No Diggity and Bump it Up are tied for fifth (20) while Spiked Punch sits in seventh (19).
Wild Sets and Rockstars are tied for eighth (15) while Gillons’ Northerners slipped to 10th (14 points).
Sloppy Sets (three) and I’d Hit That (no points) both were blanked last week to remain in 11th and 12th place, respectively.
Action resumes tonight at 7 p.m. at Fort High and St. Michael’s School.
