2026 Olympic speed skater Anders Johnson shared his experiences with Cornerstone, Donald Young and J.W. Walker Schools on June 29. Although Anders was only home for one full day, he was very excited to meet with students from those three schools. Students from JK to Grade 8 listened and all were attentive and taken in with interest and enthusiasm as Anders presented his experiences and hope.
The schools that Anders presented at had found information about him online and invited him to come speak to their students.
“Students asked some great questions and Anders answered each one with authenticity, wisdom, and encouragement,” a teacher shared.

When Anders showed his 2026 Olympics 1,000 metre race on video, students from all three schools cheered enthusiastically. It was shared with me that it was just like Anders had won a medal.
Cornerstone students and teachers were impressed as Anders shared one of his life lessons that resonates deeply with him is that while we may have our own plans and dreams, God’s plans are often greater than we could imagine. Anders went on to say, “When we trust Him to direct our steps, He can lead us on a journey far better than the one we had mapped out for ourselves.”
Anders’ proud grandma June Winik, uncle Jon-Paul and cousin Sophie joined him as he spoke at all three schools. June shared, “It was cute to watch the kids and teachers trying to do the workout.”
All three schools were thankful for Anders investing in their schools and sharing so openly about his experiences, faith and the life lessons he’s learned along the way. Many students and teachers left inspired, encouraged, and challenged to pursue their goals with perseverance!
Although Anders was on a very tight schedule he just wanted to show his appreciation for his hometown(s), and thanked all students for their support. He was happy to share that he was born here, learned to skate and play hockey here and he still calls the district his home.
Anders’ most important message to students was, “Don’t give up. If there’s something you like to do and are good at keep pursuing that goal.”
