A Pickle Lake man has been fined a total of $950 for angling-related offences.
Gregory Pickett was fined $750 for obstructing a Ministry of Natural Resources’ conservation officer and $200 for fishing without a licence.
Court heard that on May 23, a conservation officer contacted Pickett as he returned from fishing on Kapkichi Lake in Sioux Lookout District.
Pickett told the officer that he had left his fishing licence at home.
Upon investigation, the officer discovered Picket bought a fishing licence after being questioned and asked the licence issuer to backdate it to May 21— two days earlier.
Meanwhile, Allan Ricky Martin of Pickle Lake was fined $2,250 for possessing an over-limit of 15 walleye.
Court heard that on May 23, a Ministry of Natural Resources’ conservation officer contacted Martin and six passengers on his boat as they returned from fishing on Kapkichi Lake in Sioux Lookout District. Forty-three walleye were on the boat.
The seven anglers each were allowed a legal daily catch-and-possession limit of four walleye.
Martin accepted responsibility for the 15 walleye over the legal daily catch-and-possession limit of 28 for the group.
The over-limit fish were seized and forfeited to the Crown, then donated to charity.
Justice of the Peace Daisy Hoppe heard the cases Feb. 16 in Pickle Lake.
