North Stars off to slow start

The Fort William First Nation North Stars are looking for their first win at the Dudley Hewitt Cup in North Bay.
The SIJHL champs opened the provincial Junior ‘A’ championship with a 5-4 loss to the host Skyhawks on Tuesday, then were blanked 4-0 to the Aurora Tigers yesterday.
The North Stars met the Sault Ste. Marie Thunderbirds (1-1) this afternoon to wrap up round-robin play (the result was not known by press time).
The top team after the round-robin advances to the final, with second-place playing third in the semi-final.
Fort William advanced to the Dudley Hewitt Cup (which was hosted by the Borderland Thunder last year) after beating the Dryden Ice Dogs in five games in the best-of-seven SIJHL final.
The winner of the Dudley Hewitt Cup moves on to the Royal Bank Cup in Grande Prairie, Alta. on May 8-12.
Last year here, the Thunder lost 3-2 to the Skyhawks in the semi-final. But the North Bay squad went on to lose to the Wellington Dukes in the final.
The Dukes then advanced to the 2003 Royal Bank Cup in Charlottetown, P.E.I., which was won by the Humbolt Broncos.
